Use a tool to draw (a chopstick works best) and use your finger to pause drawing. Drawing will resume when you use a tool again.

Red dot=drawing paused; green dot=drawing unpaused.

You can switch easily from finger to tool (from paused to unpaused) because Drawpad recognizes the farthest-forward object; if you have your finger and a tool paralell to each other, chopstick in front, you can move your finger forward to pause, and move your chopstick forward to begin drawing again.
